The Green Improvement Project is Becoming a Reality

If we can get all the permissions and legal agreements in place, the work on the Green Improvement Project Phase 1 is scheduled to start in January and will take about 3 months to complete. It will be followed up by the resurfacing of the roads around the entire Green.

As part of construction, Surrey County Council (SCC) will try to ensure that access to all the shops and businesses is maintained during opening hours. The resurfacing of the carriageway will, of course, require diversions but these will be scheduled to take place overnight.

Any public notice issued by the Parish Council will be displayed on the notice board on The Green (and uploaded to the Council’s website). For example, a statutory notice is part of the process to seek the permission of the Secretary of State (for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) to make some changes to the paths to the central Green which is registered as Common Land / Village Green. These changes are proposed in order to improve pedestrian safety and access at the main crossing points on each side of The Green.

In summary, a new path will be created running from the new crossing point on the South side (in front of The Gallery) to the hard standing around the War Memorial. There will also be a minor amendment to a path on the North side linking it to the new crossing there, and some new tactile paving to serve the new crossing point on the west side. Full details are currently available for inspection at Warlingham Community Library.
