Warlingham Parish Council has agreed a design for a refurbished playground at Hamsey Green Recreation Ground, off Verdayne Gardens, with Tandridge District Council (TDC) which owns the site. It is expected that the new equipment will be installed in the first half of 2025, funded jointly by TDC and the parish council.
The current playground has a very limited range of equipment and much of it is tired and in need of replacement. Following complaints from residents, we talked to parents, who primarily wanted a new slide and climbing frame.
The council then engaged with TDC and suppliers and agreed funding of £9,500 towards a large new piece of equipment. TDC then advised that it intended to overhaul the whole playground and has proposed a design which, as well as a slide and extensive climbing frame, incorporates other new pieces, some usable by children with disabilities, such as sensory panels, new safety surfacing, benches and a table (see illustration).
The council has warmly welcomed the proposal and look forward to its implementation.
