Simon was also a Tandridge District Councillor for 28 years, representing Warlingham East (plus Chelsham & Farleigh for 20 of those years) as a Liberal Democrat representative. He stood down in 2022, having been Chairman of the Council in his final year, and was then made an Honorary Alderman in recognition of long service. Whilst at Tandridge District Council, he served for 19 years on the Planning Committee as well as being his Party’s spokesman on Finance and then Housing for several years.

A banker and project manager by profession, Simon retired from HSBC in 2012 after over 32 years’ service. He is treasurer of All Saints Church, and his main interests are choral singing, cricket and politics. He also enjoys going to concerts, opera and the theatre when time allows.
